Delaying Approval of Student Comments

on a Teacher Post

I know we've talked about this, but I wanted to make
sure I repeated this...
You will need to moderate student comments
for many blog activities and delay posting of any student
comments until ALL students have shared their initial thoughts.
This is to prevent "parroting" of other's ideas, or the
"yeah, what he said" student responses.

So if you asked your students in the blog to tell what Lelaine was thinking
in a class read-aloud or reading group book, you'd want to WAIT
TO APPROVE COMMENTS on your initial post until ALL of your students had
commented on that post. That way they can have their own original,
initial thinking. After their first responses, it is fine to have students respond
to each other's thinking-- this is part of the power of blogging-- and it
does support better, deeper student learning.
